COVID - 19 Update

COVID-19 EBA Update

5/25/20

Edina Baseball Association wants to provide you with the most up to date information on our plans to safely start playing baseball this season.

We received guidance from Governor Walz's community state-wide youth sports commission last week that allows for organized team practices to begin on June 1st. We will be publishing guidance for baseball practice safety procedures and social distancing for families, players and coaches. We ask for your support in order to minimize risk to our players and coaches.

Travel coaches will be in communication with families regarding practice times as they get scheduled and the practices will be added to teams’ calendars.

A return date for Travel game play has not yet been established. We are hoping it will be later in June. We will communicate to Travel coaches and families when we receive that information from the state youth sports commission. Any adjustments that are made to the program deliverables such as number of games played (including tournaments) will result in corresponding refunds.

A decision for the start of the Rec season for 4th-7th grade has not been made. We will provide an update when we know when games can be played. If we are not able to organize games for this league, families will be provided refunds. Regrettably, we have made the decision to cancel the Rec season for 8th-12th grade due to low registration numbers.

The Day Baseball season will be moving forward for now, but we have moved the start date to June 22nd. The season will go through July 30th. The traditional end of the year Braemar Night (Courtney Fields) for the Day baseball program has been canceled.

For 10th-12th grade players who had planned to play Jr. Legion/Legion this summer, the EBA, in partnership with NLB, is providing an option for players to participate in a high-level developmental training program June 1st through early August. The cost is $400 for twice a week training. When we receive clarity on game play from the youth sports commission, organized scrimmages and games with other community teams will be added in July/August for an additional fee. Players can register on the EBA website through May 29th

High School Summer Training

In lieu of the Junior Legion and Legion seasons being cancelled, the EBA is providing an option for players that were hoping to play at these levels. In conjunction with NLB, we are implementing a high-level developmental training program that will meet 2X per week starting June 1 and will run thru early August. All aspects of the game will be addressed and once we receive clarity from the city when fields may open, we are hoping to have organized scrimmages and games with other community teams that would take place in July and August. Cost for the training will be $400 and there will be an additional charge not to exceed $400 if practices are moved outdoors and scrimmages/games are integrated into the training. Safety and social distancing guidlelines and procedures will be implemented and communicated prior to the first session.
